Moscow Exchange Trading Volumes in September 2023
In September 2023, total trading volumes across Moscow Exchange’s markets grew by 67.0% to RUB 124.1 trln (RUB 74.3 in September 2022). Unless stated otherwise, all figures below refer to performance for August 2023 and all comparisons are with the same period last year.
Trading volumes on all MOEX markets rose: Derivatives Market (up 87.5%), Equity Market (up 85.0%), FX Market (up 65.1%), Money Market (up 63.1%) and Bond Market (up 21.7%). Trading volume on the Precious Metals Market grew 3.8 times.
Equity & Bond Market
Total trading volume on the Equity and Bond Market in September 2023 increased by 58.7% to RUB 3,978.5 bln (September 2022: RUB 2,506.4 bln), hereinafter excluding overnight bonds.
Trading volume in shares, DRs and investment fund units rose by 85.0% to RUB 2,713.54 bln (September 2022: RUB 1,466.6 bln). ADTV was RUB 129.2 bln (September 2022: RUB 66.7 bln).
Turnover in corporate, regional and sovereign bonds grew by 21.7% to RUB 1,265.0 bln (September 2022: RUB 1,039.8 bln). ADTV was RUB 60.2 bln (September 2022: RUB 47.3 bln).
77 bond issues with a combined value of RUB 2,866.0 bln (of which overnight bonds accounted for RUB 2,451.3 bln) were placed in September 2023.
Derivatives Market
Derivatives Market trading volume grew by 87.5% to RUB 8.9 trln (September 2022: RUB 4.7 trln). ADTV was RUB 421.6 bln (September 2022: RUB 214.6 bln).
FX Market
FX Market trading volume grew by 65.1% to RUB 32.2 trln (September 2022: RUB 19.5 trln). Spot trading volumes increased by 27.9% to RUB 10.2 trln, and swap trades and forwards were RUB 22.0 trln.
ADTV was RUB 1,535.5 (September 2022: RUB 888.0 bln).
Money Market
Money Market turnover grew 63.1% to RUB 76.5trln (September 2022: RUB 46.9 trln). ADTV was RUB 3,642.6 bln (September 2022: RUB 2,132.4 bln).
The CCP-cleared repo segment added 53.4% to reach RUB 35.4 trln, including the GCC repo segment which increased by 151.9% to RUB 26.0 trln.
Precious Metals Market
Turnover in precious metals (spot and swaps) was up 3.8 times to RUB 49.9 bln (September 2022: RUB 13.1 bln), of which RUB 49.0 bln (8.3 t) was gold and RUB 0.9 bln (12.2 t) was silver.
