Cause of outage on the Equity & Bond Market
At 14:59 MSK on 1 September 2015, trading on the Exchange"s Equity & Bond Market was temporarily suspended. The system was available for order withdrawal from 15:35 MSK, and trading resumed at 15:55 MSK. Moscow Exchange's other markets continued to operate as usual.
The outage was caused by instability in the main server of the market"s trading and clearing system. To fix the problem, the server was paused and switched manually to a backup server. The system was restarted in 36 minutes. According to market regulations, any switch to backup equipment is made automatically, without trading being suspended in the event of a server failure. However, today it was not possible to accurately determine the condition of the server when it began to show signs of instability, which prevented the system from carrying out an automatic failover. As such, the switch had to be made manually. The Exchange has contacted the developer in order to identify the reasons for the improper operation of the server.
Member firms were informed of the suspension and resumption of trading in a timely manner.
We apologise for any inconvenience this interruption caused.
