Reasons for derivatives market suspension on 25 April
Some clients experienced problems connecting to the Derivatives Market via the Internet on 25 April 2016 at around 10.00 am MSK. Participants who use an Internet connection account for about 5% of Derivatives Market clients (other members use other ways to connect, such as leased lines). All clients were able to trade as they always have a backup terminal with connectivity via a leased line or VPN.
After the Exchange solved the Internet connections problem, issues later arose with other connection types. By 11.15 am MSK many clients could not get a stable connection to the Derivatives Market, and the Exchange decided to halt trading from 11.20 am MSK. The access servers were promptly reloaded and the connection was inspected. By noon MSK the trading system was available for order withdrawal. In total, trading in derivatives was suspended for 55 minutes (the market usually operates 815 minutes a day).
Today"s issues with connectivity relate to a recent configuration update for network routes access servers of the Derivatives Market. Following the update, the trading system core and components of the network equipment operated as usual. Extensive testing of the new configuration was carried out last weekend together with participants, and no problems with the systems were identified. Certain abnormalities in the configuration of the network routes appeared only today during the trading session, firstly with Internet connection and then with other access channels. This is not connected with scheduled testing of a new TWIME binary protocol and load testing of trading platforms of the Derivatives and FX Markets that took place last weekend.
Trading on all other Moscow Exchange markets continues today as usual.
